5 Golden Years
Life With Mother
Following are recollections resulting from caring for my mother in her ninth decade of life. When she suffered a major medical episode, I assumed it would be only a few months. This stretched into five years, resulting in me moving, retiring from my professorship earlier than I had anticipated, reversals in finances as well as my health.
Although having been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, I have recently come to the literature of Narcissistic Behavior and I now believe a combination is a better description for Mother’s behavior. I have had a couple years to ponder, to begin to recover and make sense of my experiences.
To those who have experienced loving mothers, you are most blessed. To the rest of us, it is my hope and belief that sharing my experiences and understandings will aid in your healing and ability to care for your aging mother.
